Where to Grow Melon Medley?
These melons grow best in zones 4-9, in full sun and rich, well-drained soil. They are perfectly suited for raised beds, garden rows, and greenhouses. In cooler regions, use cloches or floating row covers to encourage early growth and extend the season.

History and Traditional Uses
Melons have been cultivated for thousands of years and are prized for their sweet and refreshing flesh. This medley brings together traditional varieties and unique selections, continuing the ancient tradition of saving and cultivating flavorful varieties adapted to local climates.

Information for Canadian Zones
Zones 8-9: Sow directly after the last frost or transplant seedlings started indoors in late spring.
Zones 5-7: Sow indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost, then transplant when the soil is warm.
Zone 4: Grow in a greenhouse or under a cloche to ensure fruit ripening in short seasons.

How to Grow and Harvest Melon Medley

Planting: Sow seeds 1.5 cm (½ in) deep, spacing plants 45-60 cm (18-24 in) apart in rich soil.

Watering: Water deeply and regularly, avoiding wetting the foliage.

Support: Allow ample space for vines to spread, or trellis them vertically if space is limited.

Harvesting: Harvest melons when they easily detach from the vine and emit a sweet fragrance from the blossom end.

Tips for Seed Saving for Future Supply

Allow fruits to fully ripen: Choose healthy fruits and allow them to fully ripen on the plant.

Seed harvesting: Remove seeds, rinse thoroughly, then ferment for 2-3 days to remove residues.

Drying and storage: Dry completely on a screen or cloth, then store in a cool, dry, dark place.

Viability: Seeds remain viable for up to 5 years if stored properly.
