Spinach is a highly prized leafy green and a garden staple in spring and fall. This fast-growing, cool-season annual thrives in rich, moist soil and yields an abundance of nutritious leaves. Its mild, versatile flavor makes it suitable for fresh salads and sautéed dishes alike. Spinach can be harvested young as baby greens or allowed to mature for larger leaves, and it freezes very well after cooking.

Where to Grow Spinach?

Spinach grows best in zones 3 to 9 during the cool seasons of spring and fall. It prefers full sun to partial shade and benefits from regular watering and nutrient-rich soil.

History and Traditional Uses

Cultivated for over 2,000 years, spinach is believed to have originated in ancient Persia before spreading to Europe and Asia. Valued for its nutritional benefits and culinary versatility, it is now one of the most widely consumed leafy greens in the world.
