Metchosin Farm's Swiss Chard Blend is a spectacular combination of colorful, tender-stemmed varieties, selected over 15 years to bring together the best characteristics of traditional rainbow chard, Bright Lights, and beet-derived (silverbeet) types. With its shades of dark green, red, orange, yellow, and pink, this blend is both highly ornamental and a must-have for productive gardens year-round.

Rich in nutrients and antioxidants, Swiss chard grows well in both summer and winter. Its mild, slightly sweet flavor makes it a versatile ingredient, whether raw in salads, sautéed, or incorporated into soups and stews.

Where can Swiss Chard be grown?

Swiss chard thrives in zones 3 to 9, in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. It is ideal for raised beds, vegetable borders, and even ornamental plantings due to its colorful foliage.

History and Traditional Uses

Chard has been cultivated for thousands of years, originating in the Mediterranean region before spreading to Europe and North America. Valued for its nutritious leaves and great resilience, it remains a staple vegetable in home gardens.

How to Grow and Harvest Swiss Chard Blend

Planting: Sow seeds 1–2 cm (0.5–1 in) deep, spacing plants 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 in) apart.
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist for tender, sweet leaves.
Harvesting: Begin harvesting outer leaves when they reach 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in), allowing the plant to continue producing.
Cold Hardiness: Chard tolerates light frosts, and mature plants can survive mild winters with protection.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply
