Parsley is an essential aromatic plant in gardens worldwide, appreciated for its fresh, clean flavor and its great versatility in cooking. A member of the carrot family, it forms beautiful clumps of dense green foliage, perfect for fresh consumption as a garnish, in salads and soups, or for drying and freezing.

This biennial plant is also very decorative. When allowed to flower in its second year, it can self-seed naturally, making it a lasting and low-maintenance presence in the garden.

Where to grow parsley

Parsley thrives in zones 3 to 9. It prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil, as well as full sun or partial shade. It is perfectly suited for vegetable gardens, herb gardens, and container growing.

History and traditional uses

Native to the Mediterranean region, parsley has been cultivated for thousands of years. In ancient Greece and Rome, it was used both as a culinary plant and as a symbol of victory and renewal. Today, it remains one of the most widely used herbs in the world and is recognized for its nutritional qualities, particularly its richness in vitamins A, C, and K.
