Oregon gumweed is a robust and resilient native perennial that produces striking sunflower-like yellow blooms from mid-summer until fall. Adapted to arid environments, it readily grows in gravelly or nutrient-poor soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping, restoration projects, and wild gardens. Its deep root system and high drought resistance make it an ideal, low-maintenance plant for dry landscapes. The sticky flower buds, from which it gets its "gumweed" name, are a distinctive feature and also serve as a food source and habitat for pollinators.

Where can you grow Oregon Gumweed?
Oregon Gumweed is best suited for zones 5-9. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soils. It flourishes in rock gardens, dry meadows, roadside plantings, and areas with low water availability.

History and Historic Uses
Traditionally used in indigenous and Western medicine, Grindelia spp. has been valued for its resinous flower heads, employed to treat respiratory and skin conditions. Its bright flowers and ability to thrive in harsh conditions have made it a prized plant in natural meadows and native plantings.
